Cuban missile crisis simulation project
For this project, we were assigned to piece together a cold war emergency situation of 1962.
Our task was to determine what crisis was affecting the safety of the American people. We were given Top Secret envelopes that we thoroughly examined, making note of each clue. We then found the imminent threat, being, the placement of soviets missiles in Cuba.

We then had to propose how to respond to it, as the president's security team.
With the options being :
1. Launch an immediate airstrike
2. Issue a blockade
3. A peaceful discussion
4. Removal of soviets missiles in exchange for our missiles
5. Call for the use of nuclear weapons

With thoughtful consideration, my team and I chose option 3, in hope to bring the issue to the United nations for a peaceful discussion, we issued a letter to president kennedy.
Our letter above reads :
“Mr. President,
As Commander in Chief you bear a profound responsibility to protect the American people and maintain your role as leader of the Free World. We have weighed the options before us to manage the current crisis between the United States and Cuba. After careful
consideration, we respectfully propose that you bring the issue to the United Nations for peaceful discussion. We believe a discussion could bring to fruition peace among superpowers. The United Nations may have some sway over Russia, We may be able to get the missiles out of Cuba. We can show that we aren't looking for any type of war and represent our country in a peaceful manner. It is a possibility that Cuba could assume we’re bluffing. But there is a greater possibility, if we use the right reasoning and really help them to understand that we are not looking for any disagreements. We believe that this is the best possible option. Attacking Cuba would most likely result in war and would be very expensive. Placing a blockade would anger Russia and Cuba, and the use of nuclear weapons should be our last resort. With this great responsibility, a peaceful discussion is the best option.”

21st Century skills
This assignment consisted of many 21st century skills. Including, Communication, interpersonal, and thinking & problem solving skills. When contributing to this project, communication skills were vital. I communicated effectively with my team members verbally and nonverbally with written responses in deciding which option to use against Cuba. Interpersonal skills were also very important for me to perform when playing my part in a group. I did so by successfully working cooperatively with my team. Lastly, when coming up with an appropriate option, thinking & problem solving skills were essential for me to demonstrate.
Reflection
I really enjoyed working on this project. It was exciting to imagine the world in 1962 and to have the mindset of a government official! It was also very interesting to learn more about how government officials have to carefully consider how to solve real-world problems that can be life threatening. I am very proud of how well my group and I communicated in order to get this project done correctly and in a timely manner. To improve upon assignments like these, in future circumstances I would focus more on the task at hand and ignore distractions that may come my way.
